Lot Ended
Description
Restored
around eight years ago; wonderful condition throughout; from a
brilliant retro collection and very lightly used; only 18,700 miles
indicated; hard to find in the UK, let alone as smart as
this
Now when did you last see one of
these on the road? Probably not for a long time because, as far as we can tell,
only a dozen First Generation Toyota Celica ST Coupes have appeared at auction
in the UK in the last 10 years.
First registered in May 1976, this
Celica TA22 5-speed manual twin-cam has formed part of a fantastic retro
collection for the last five years, seeing little use and being kept tucked
away in storage. We are told that it was restored by the previous owner but we
are unsure of the extent of the work carried out as our vendor
has misplaced the paperwork for the car.
What we can tell you, however, is that whatever was done has clearly
been done extremely well and this Japanese Mustang positively gleams in our
classic car garage. The bodywork looks very nice dripping in blue metallic
paintwork against the contrasting black vinyl roof that looks to be in equally
nice nick.
Showing 18,744 miles on the odometer,
a quick MOT check online shows that this Toyota has covered just seven miles
since its last MOT in January 2018 where it passed with just one advisory. In
fact it has only covered around 3,000 miles in the last 20 years. Badged as a
1600, the V5C states the capacity as 2,000cc which is presumably an error but
you will need to make your own minds up on that score.
Running and driving nicely on site, this rare retro Celica looks an
awful lot of cool for relatively little outlay.
