Imported from Hong Kong in 2004; complete with factory hard top
and stand; well maintained; 12 months MOT with no
advisories
This vehicle was imported from Hong Kong in 2004 and remained on the
road until late 2011, being maintained sparingly and regularly serviced by a
trusted mechanic. After being unused for several years, it was taken over by the
vendor in July 2020.
Upon inspection, the vehicle was dusty and in poor condition, with a
flat battery and tyres. Initial attempts to restore it involved replacing spark
plugs and other components but yielded little
improvement.
In
December 2020, it was entrusted to Rob Jones a local Mercedes specialist in
Hereford, who replaced various worn-out parts, cleaned the fuel system, and
passed the car's MOT, however performance issues persisted. In September 2021,
it was sent to specialist, Indi Singh for further diagnostics, where
extensive repairs were made, including replacing the fuel tank and associated
components. This marked the beginning of a more thorough restoration process
aimed at returning the vehicle to its former
condition.
The restoration of the vehicle has been a comprehensive process
involving significant repairs and upgrades. On its second visit to Indi
Singh, several crucial components were addressed, including overhauling the
soft top hydraulic system, replacing fuel pumps, and installing a new ignition
coil, along with associated seals and gaskets. The car underwent a thorough
service, where all coolant and lubricants were flushed, new stainless brake
lines were fitted, and modifications were made to the distributors and
sump.
In addition to these major repairs, various smaller tasks were
completed, such as replacing track rod arm ends, a passenger side sun visor, and
the glove box latch, alongside minor paint repairs and interior adjustments.
Notable modifications include the installation of drain holes in the
distributors to mitigate moisture issues and the addition of a steel under
tray.
Existing
faults include a stiff driver seat pivot mechanism, broken gears in the seat
adjustment system, minor paint imperfections, a non-returning bonnet release
handle, and damage to a front light wiper blade.
Driving, stopping and starting since it’s been on site, the roof
works - as seen in the video and the hardtop is
included.
The car comes with 12 months MOT with no advisories, the boot is
filled with parts that may be useful to the new owner in the future along with
the hardtop stand.
