Part of a considerable private collection since 2001, since being
imported from the USA; deceased estate; last of the hand built Aston Martins;
presented in Dover White with red leather interior; one of approx 80 built in
1988
The Aston Martin V8 Volante represented the
pinnacle of British open-top grand touring, combining the marque’s signature
elegance with powerful V8 performance. Produced in relatively limited numbers,
it offered refined handling, power-assisted controls, and distinctive styling
that has ensured its enduring appeal. Celebrated for its commanding presence,
effortless cruising, and unmistakable Aston Martin character, the V8 Volante
remains highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts
alike.
One of only two Aston Martins from this
collection, and the sole convertible, this Volante represents a standout piece
from the deceased estate, and a desirable vehicle in its own right. Like all
vehicles from the collection, it has seen relatively little use over the past 18
months. The car is currently presented non-running due to a suspected ignition
system fault, which we are investigating and will update
accordingly.
The most recent MOT lapsed only in
June of last year with a single advisory noted, and the car is understood to
have travelled just 6 kilometres since, currently showing 93,645 kilometres.
Believed to have remained unchanged over this period, it offers reassurance that
the car remains very much as it was at the time it passed.
Like many Volantes of its era, this 1988 left hand drive example was
originally delivered new to the US, where the model was particularly popular,
and is believed to have been imported back to the UK circa 2000. First
registered as ‘YJW1’, it has had just two registered keepers since, both family
members of the collection, who have kept it until the present day, suggesting a
genuine fondness for the car.
Finished in classic
Dover White with contrasting red leather, this Volante presents in good looking
condition and is particularly eye-catching in this colour combination. The
muscular bodywork appears sound, with no significant dents or scratches, and the
paintwork retains good depth and shine. Some micro-blistering has appeared on
the bonnet and boot lid, though this is localised and does not detract from the
overall appearance. The factory optional BBS alloy wheels are in excellent
condition and may have been refurbished; although no invoices are present, their
condition speaks for itself.
The sporting deep
red leather interior has aged very well, with no significant rips or tears, and
remains suitably luxurious. Deep wool carpets are also present, along with the
cover for the convertible hood when closed, finished in matching red leather and
in similarly fine condition. The tan convertible roof presents particularly
well, showing no signs of fading, rips, tears, or sagging. While the electric
operation is currently not functioning after a period in storage, the roof can
still be folded manually, allowing top-down motoring until it is attended
to.
In summary, this Volante presents as a highly
desirable and well-specified example, ideal as a European tourer or a standout
addition to any collection. A rare opportunity to acquire the crown jewel of a
highly prized private collection, it is very keenly estimated for a car of this
calibre, and opportunities like this rarely come along.
Please note, while the registration record may indicate a Category C
insurance loss, this has been confirmed as incorrect by HPI Ltd., based on the
previous registration number, with written confirmation available and on
file.
Other paperwork on file confirm the long
term ownership and registration details. We understand there is also some
historical service history but we will update details on this when it arrives
with us.
