The Land Rover
Defender needs little introduction. A true British icon, it has earned a
reputation as one of the most capable and recognisable 4x4s ever built. From
remote farms to global expeditions, the Defender has proven itself across every
terrain and climate imaginable.
This particularly
well-looked-after example is believed to have remained within the same family
ownership from new, with just two registered keepers including our vendor — a
rare sight for Defenders of this age. The vehicle also still proudly wears its
original dealer plates and wheel cover from M.J. Fews, suggesting this is a
remarkably rare and highly original example.
Available in a wide variety of body styles, this 2004 example is
presented in desirable County specification, with a greater focus on
passenger comfort, bridging the gap between utility and everyday use thanks to
additional rear windows and seating. Paired with Land Rover’s legendary and
highly regarded TD5 engine and finished in sought-after Epsom Green Metallic,
this is a particularly desirable example of the breed.
Having been a reliable companion to the vendor for nearly 20 years,
the car was treated to a full mechanical overhaul by well-respected Land Rover
specialists Hereford 4x4, at a cost exceeding £8,000 between 2024 and 2025. This
work included the replacement of various suspension and brake components,
chassis cleaning and protection, a fuel system refresh, and a full engine
service, to name just a few items. Other maintenance work was also carried out
by the Vendor's local garage. All of this is evidenced by accompanying invoices
available for inspection, though too extensive to list in
full.
As demonstrated in the photographs, the
underside of this Defender presents in impressive order, with the chassis
appearing to be among the cleanest we have seen. The interior remains smart and
highly usable, featuring electric front windows and even heated seats. The
practical theme continues with a height-adjustable tow bar, roof rack,
spotlights, and the obligatory snorkel all present and
correct.
Like most Land Rovers, this example has
been well used as well as well loved. While the desirable Epsom Green metallic
paintwork retains much of its shine, the car wears its battle scars proudly,
with numerous scratches and dents across the bodywork. Arguably, this only adds
to its rugged character, making the car even more usable and ready for
adventure.
Driven to the sale without issue and
running and driving on site, this low-owner and exceptionally well-maintained
Defender presents an excellent and increasingly rare opportunity for anyone in
the market for a seemingly well-sorted and highly usable example. Offering
excellent value for money given the recent expenditure, this Landy is ready for
its next adventure.
