Charming vintage saloon; resprayed body; out of long tern ownership
before being purchased through a deceased estate earlier on this
year
Elegant,
practical and dependable, the Morris 10/6 was one of Britain's most popular
family cars of the early 1930s. Powered by Morris's smooth six-cylinder engine,
it offered noticeably more refinement than many of its four-cylinder rivals,
making it an ideal touring car and helping to cement Morris's reputation for
producing reliable, affordable motoring for the masses.
Presented in an
attractive blue and black colour scheme, this 1934 example has clearly been
cherished during its life, with the bodywork having been resprayed at some point
in the past. It formed part of a deceased estate earlier in the year having been
purchased by our vendor. Prior to that it had spent around a decade in the
same ownership, itself following a long-term owner who had cared for the car
from 1983 onwards.
Although used only sparingly in more recent years and
largely kept in storage, the Morris remains a running and driving example. At
the time of consignment it started and drove with the assistance of an external
battery, suggesting that the battery itself will require replacement or
attention before regular use.
The car presents as a smart, honest
vintage saloon rather than a concours example. The paintwork and brightwork show
well overall, the wire wheels suit the car perfectly and the proportions of the
upright six-light body give it tremendous period charm. It is the sort of car
that can be enjoyed immediately while being improved gradually as time
allows.
Increasingly difficult to find in such original, usable
condition, this Morris 10/6 would make an excellent entry into vintage motoring.
Equally at home on local shows, road runs and club events, it offers charismatic
pre-war motoring at an accessible guide price and represents an appealing
opportunity for anyone seeking a practical and enjoyable 1930s
saloon.
