Description
Totally rebuilt around a new body shell for use in Historic
Motorsport events; many performance upgrades; advisory-free MOT; huge
specification; vast recent expenditure; all built and ready to
go
Manufactured in July 1964, this MGB Roadster was originally
exported to the USA and returned to the UK in July 1992. Since then, it has had
five previous owners, with the current owner acquiring the vehicle in April
2022.
In 1992, this MG underwent a comprehensive rebuild, including the
installation of a new bare shell, and was specifically constructed as a
competition vehicle in compliance with FIA regulations. Key modifications
include steel doors, boot lid, and an aluminium bonnet.
Other notable
features of the car include FIA Safety Devices roll cage, aluminium sump guard
and carbon fibre fuel tank guard, works-style hardtop with roof vent,
Minilite-style wheels, new Sparco seats and safety belts (2024) and new Lifeline
fire extinguisher system (2024).
The engine was rebuilt in 2017 by the
previous owner, with the installation of Omega pistons, a steel crankshaft, and
steel conrods. The cylinder head was fitted with large valves, competition
springs, and a race camshaft, which was later replaced in 2024 to improve
drivability.
The engine is fully balanced with an increased capacity of
1860cc and is fitted with a single 45 DCOE Weber carburettor. Additionally, the
car features twin Red Top Facet fuel pumps, controlled via a dashboard switch
and fuse. The transmission is a 3-synchro straight cut close ratio gearbox,
paired with a competition overdrive and a Banjo rear axle.
In 2024, the
car received an upgrade to its suspension with new, uprated springs, along with
rebuilt brake calipers, wheel cylinders, and a refurbished rear axle. A number
of other small repairs were completed, as detailed in the invoices from Aldon
Automotive.
While a Historic Rally Vehicle Identity Form was partially
completed under previous ownership, it was not finalised. On 16th January 2025,
the vehicle was issued with a Motorsport UK competition passport.
Coming
with a good sized history folder that details a huge amount of work, it must be
seen to be appreciated. We recommend any interested bidders to pop into the
office on viewing day to take a look at the invoices on file that show the
extent of the work that has been carried out.
