Only 59,800 miles indicated; previous owner 21 years; only 2,000 miles
since major £8,800 mechanical overhaul; manual gearbox; running and driving
nicely on site; front valance panel requires attention
As the Heritage Certificate
confirms, this Jaguar E-Type V12 Coupe was built in March 1971 finished in
British Racing Green with a Cinnamon hide interior and 4-speed manual gearbox.
It was sold new via PJ Evans of Birmingham and was first registered in that city
in June 1971.
The V5C records six owners to
date, the fifth of whom, a Mr TP Martin of Gerrards Cross, bought it from Mead
of Burnham in August 2003 and was to keep it for 21 years before our vendor
acquired it in March 2024.
When Mr Martin acquired the
car, it had covered 56,133 miles and came with a new MOT and a six-month
warranty, Mead of Burnham fitting a new steering rack and new door lock barrels
prior to delivery. The purchase invoice shows that it cost £16,250 which was the
going rate for a good example back then.
In October 2004 it was sent to
Jaguar specialist Marcus Barclay of Gerrards Cross for a major service and
overhaul which cost £8,836. This included a full brake system overhaul with new
front discs and pads, new rear pads, new servo and new master cylinder; full
suspension overhaul with new Koni shock absorbers all round (two at the front,
four at the back); four rear coil springs and new bushes as
required.
It also got new wheel bearings
and hub bearings; four new drive shaft UJs; new clutch master and slave
cylinders; a full Bell stainless steel exhaust system; full service plus much
else besides, the mileage at this point being 57,791
miles.
Treated to a brake fluid
change and a new Varta battery in March last year, it now shows 59,807 miles.
As you can see in the photos, it looks to be in generally good
condition for the year/mileage with an impressively clean and tidy interior,
decent paintwork and nice shiny wire wheels shod with a matching set of Pirelli
P4000 tyres with plenty of tread. An original owner's handbook and period sales
brochure are also present.
Unfortunately there is some
corrosion around the front o/s bonnet hinge and although the bonnet opened
easily for the engine bay shots, it proved difficult to close again as the hinge
came adrift from its mounting points. Although it is now closed properly, this
will clearly need attention and it won’t be possible to open the bonnet again
during the viewing without the risk of causing further damage.
Starting promptly and running
well as we have moved it around on site, with healthy 60psi oil pressure on the
gauge, this low-mileage E-Type is on offer here at a sensible guide price which
should leave plenty of headroom for the front valance panel repairs
required.
