One of the nicest example
to come to market in the last 12 months; powered by the 841cc two-stroke engine;
showing just 95,443 miles
Offered here is a charming and
increasingly rare example of Saab’s iconic two-stroke engineering. This 1967
Saab 96 presents as a highly characterful classic that benefits from extensive
recent work and careful ongoing ownership. First registered in March 1967, the
vehicle is finished in bright red and complemented by a striking red and light
grey lettered interior, capturing the unmistakable period appeal that makes
these cars so desirable among enthusiasts.
Powered by the 841cc
two-stroke engine, the car delivers the unique driving experience synonymous
with early Saab motoring, and it currently shows 95,443 miles on the odometer.
In total, the car has had nine former keepers, and it has been in the current
ownership since May 2025. Over the past 12 months, it has undergone a
significant programme of mechanical and structural attention, ensuring it
remains a usable and enjoyable classic.
Recent works include
refurbishment of the braking system with the master cylinder replaced, new front
slave cylinders and brake linings fitted, along with new copper brake pipes and
hoses. The clutch system has also been addressed with a new slave cylinder
installed. Additional maintenance has included replacement condensers and spark
plugs, helping to keep the two-stroke engine running as it should. Structurally,
the car has benefitted from extensive repairs to the front bulkhead, floor,
wings, and back-to-metal repairs within the radiator bay, indicating a
thoughtful approach to preserving the integrity of the
vehicle.
As with many classics of this
era, there are a few minor items to note. The horn push is not currently fitting
correctly, and both the clock and fuel gauge are inoperative. These points are
consistent with a vehicle of this age and present an opportunity for the next
owner to further refine the car if desired.
On the road, the
Saab performs as expected, driving, stopping, and starting with the distinctive
character that makes these cars so engaging. Overall, this example stands out as
a very appealing and well-maintained Saab 96, representing one of the better
opportunities to acquire a usable and increasingly scarce two-stroke classic
that has clearly been cared for and improved in recent
ownership.
